The Social, Economic, Environmental Design Network launches the 2nd Annual SEED Awards for Excellence in Public Interest Design to showcase and promote design projects that help create socially, economically and environmentally healthy communities.

The projects will be judged using “SEED”: Social Economic Environmental Design”® a standard evaluation to measure the positive impact of design projects.

SEED projects:

• Advocate with those who have a limited voice in public life.
• Build structures for inclusion that engage stakeholders and allow communities to make decisions.
• Promote social equality through discourse that reflects a range of values and social identities.
• Generate ideas that grow from place and build local capacity. Design to help conserve resources and minimize waste.

Six winners will be announced January 27, 2012. Each winner will receive an all-expense paid trip to present at Structures for Inclusion conference at the University of Austin in Austin, Texas March 24-25, and a $1,000 cash prize. Each winning project will also be included in a documentary series by The UpTake.
