From 26 to 29 October 2011, the decommissioned Berlin Tempelhof Airport will become the new Mecca for all furniture professionals and design enthusiasts. For the first time, over the course of four days, the trade show Qubique will present the best selection of inspiring furniture design.
The portfolio will be limited to high-profile and authentic international brands. «We went about creating this event basically in the way a designer creates a new piece of furniture,» says Matthias Schmid, CEO offshow AG – the company producing Qubique. «What came out here was not just another furniture fair — not a neutral trade show — but a platform that combines trade and marketing with communication, inspiration and entertainment.»
The first two days of Qubique are for professionals only. Dealers, architects, interior designers and media representatives will do business, network and collect new ideas. During the following two days, the show will then open its doors to the wider audience. Design lovers and enthusiasts, opinion leaders and creative newcomers will have the chance to experience and enjoy the brands and be inspired.
In addition to furniture and design, art, music and fashion will leave their mark on the show. In that way correlations, trends and new developments are revealed. The art of producing premium furniture and design objects will be shown and the quality, craftsmanship, and sustainability of the products will be demonstrated. A supporting program, featuring workshops, shows, music and an exciting catering concept will allow the visitors and exhibitors to feel completely immersed in the world of Qubique.
Qubique consciously curates the portfolio of the exhibitors. The focus is on brands and products that display individuality and authenticity; that have a history while, at the same time, are looking to the future. The exhibitors will be firms that attach importance to original design and quality craftsmanship, firms that are leading and inspiring in the market. «We do not aim to reflect the entire furniture market,» says Ruben Hutschemaekers, Qubique’s Sales Director, «so we do not see ourselves as rivals to the major sales shows. However, we are not a pure working fair on the obligatory circuit either – we combine business and entertainment. Qubique is aimed at trade visitors and the wider audience to an equal extent.»
Berlin Tempelhof Airport is an architectural and historic landmark and thus much more than just a centrally located venue. The hangars and halls are an organic part of Qubique. «Here, exhibitors do not need to set themselves apart with huge stands but can use the impressive visual opportunities offered by the airport architecture to the full,» says Director of Architecture & Event, Ulrich Weingärtner, about the special presentation concept.
During the first event in October 2011, an overall area of minimum 22,000 sqm (gross) and maximum 35,000 sqm (gross) will be used for the show. In the following years, the area will be expanded continuously until finally the whole airport, with a maximum area of 60,000 sqm (gross), will be utilized. Qubique will take place every year in October from 2011 on.
