Round forms, clean lines and playfulness at Formex

People are talking about a second wave and rebirth of design rooted in the Scandinavian design of the 1950s. Soft Nordic will be this fall’s trend theme at Formex, August 13–16.
The style is pure and clean, with rounded shapes, exclusive materials and a playful look.

“We’re seeing new energy in interior decorating, most noticeably in northern Europe, where there is budding optimism. The ‘New Nordic’ style is asserting itself everywhere”, says Formex Event Manager Christina Olsson.

The style of this fall’s Soft Nordic trend theme is clean and uncluttered. The decor features soft, saturated pastels and spherical shapes with soft, rounded corners. The feeling is soft and pleasant, reflecting a simple, conscious and functional lifestyle that feels new and optimistic while maintaining clear retro references. It’s being mentioned as a second wave or renaissance of Scandinavian design’s glory days of the 1950s.

Colors: Still a lot of pink and pastels, but the tones are more saturated compared to the color palette at the previous Forex trend theme, Day Dream. This fall the dominant colors will be warm pink, pale pink, apricot, rust brown, indigo and several shades of gray.

Materials: Light matt woods, exclusive materials such as naturally tanned leather and natural stone; soft, warm wool; recycled materials; glass and lacquered surfaces and golden metals.

Shapes: Curved, soft with rounded corners.Oversized dimensions; cushions and chair backs with large, fabric-covered buttons. The expression is contempory and playful.
